Welcome, Sojo!

Hello! My name is Sojo, and I’m thrilled to join the Camp Luther full-time staff as Program and Communications Manager! I call the very small town of Clear Lake, Wisconsin my hometown, but am enjoying settling into my new home in the Northwoods.

When someone asks me how I’ve come to work at Camp or how long I’ve been working here, I have to laugh a little. My journey here is full of twists and turns, and different positions, but I can see God working in all of it. As I grew up, Camp Luther had a clear impact on my social and spiritual life as I participated in youth camps, IMPACT, and youth retreats. Some of my biggest “aha” faith moments happened during Camp Luther programming.

I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Superior with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication in May 2014. During the summer of 2015 I served as Camp Luther’s Congregational Day Camp Coordinator. That fall I continued at camp, but in the position of Program Assistant. In April 2016, I came back over the little bridge, this time as Interim Program Director and worked with our summer special programs. This fall I was more than delighted to come back once more in my current position.

One of the great things about my job is that I not only get to work hands on with programming and guests of camp, but I also have the privilege of sharing the Camp Luther Story with everyone!

K N O W N. He knows me. Our theme comes from John 10:27, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” Like most themes, our theme is one in which we can talk about too much, but never enough. At Camp Luther we often sing the song 'I Just Wanna Be A Sheep'. Like our theme, it can be sung too much, but never enough. As the song goes, “I just wanna be a sheep, ba-ba-ba-ba / I just wanna be a sheep, ba-ba-ba-ba . . .”, but when we sing this do we really mean we want to be a sheep? I don't think so.  Let's be honest, if we were going to choose to be an animal we wouldn't choose a sheep. We'd want to be a lion or an otter or a house cat or a T-Rex, but not a sheep.  Definitely not a sheep. What we are really exclaiming when we sing 'I Just Wanna Be A Sheep' is that we want to follow the One who is our Shepherd, the One who knows us. 10 Signs Summer is Near

Summer is just around the corner, and here are 10 signs to prove it! 1.    The Waterfront is in!  Thank you to the hard working volunteers who helped! Quik, Java,  Skipper,  Snack-Shack, Djembe, and Paul braved the cold and rain, and we are so grateful.  Follow Camp Luther on Instagram 2.     Summer Staff have arrived!  Our Program Coordinators move in today and Counselors and Support Staff join us next Tuesday. Meyer, Surge, and Band-Aid are ready for summer! 3.  The cottages are open! During winter, some of our cottages are closed to save on energy costs. Workbee volunteers in April and May made sure they are open and ready to be lived in! 4.    The fish are biting. Here We Grew!

A summer may end, but the memories and blessings are ours forever.  Thank you 2014 Summer Staff for touching and shaping lives of campers, adults, families and your fellow staff members with the love of Jesus.   You have endured sunburn, sleepless nights, homesick campers, messy roommates, mental and physical exhaustion, 10 thousand questions, 10 million mosquito bites, and a schedule that only a college student could handle, all for the sake of the Gospel.  Thank you for giving yourself to the Lord's work and sharing your lives with us.  All summer you have shared our theme "Here We Grow".  As our summer comes to a close, you may now realize that it is you in fact that has grown the most.  Thank you for serving Jesus at Camp Luther and KBC.  You are forever family.  - The Year-round Staff "For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, I do not cease to give thanks ...

Meet the 2017 Summer Staff!

This summer, our 45 member Summer Staff joins the legacy of 71 years of Camp Luther summer staffs! These young adults have come to camp to be caring, Christian role models in a number of different capacities. Some are sharing the love of Christ by serving as counselors, others as coordinators for programs such as IMPACT and Junior Counselors. Still others are serving as specialty staff in the maintenance and kitchen departments. Each person, each personality, each skill set has been specifically selected by God himself to be here at Camp Luther this summer, and we couldn’t be more excited! After two weeks of staff training, we can proudly say that we have one of the best trained groups of young adults to serve families, care for children, keep camp safe and maintained, and make sure everyone is fed! Thank You, 2017 Summer Staff!

At the end of May, 45 college-aged servants of Christ arrived at Camp Luther for one unforgettable summer. For some, this was their fourth year as part of the Camp Luther Summer Staff, for others this was the first time they had stepped foot on camp soil. Over the next three months they impacted thousands of lives, became a family, and learned what it is to truly rest in the strength of Jesus Christ. Saying "thank you" isn't enough for all they've done, but we're going to try. Thank you for starting fires in the rain. Thank you for living by the motto "the water is always warm." Thank you for comforting homesick campers. Thank you for sacrificing sleep. Thank you for trying new things. Thank you for making each week memorable for campers and families.
