New Programs in Summer 2017!

We’re excited to be offering FOUR new programs at Camp Luther this summer!

 Sailing Camp
This is a 5-night program for 6th-8th graders that teaches you how to sail over the course of the week. Under the instruction of an adult with extensive sailing experience, you’ll learn how to ride the wind and waves! Sailing Camp is a “Choose Your Own Adventure” camp, which means you’ll still be able to participate in many of your favorite youth camp activities (swimming, angleball, all-camp games, devotions, etc.), but each day you’ll also spend several hours practicing your sailing skills and having a blast on the water. Campers in this program should be comfortable in the water. 

 Quest
This is a 5-night program for 7th-9th graders focused on adventure! Quest campers will participate in off-site adventure trips during the day, such as mountain biking, river canoeing, and high ropes challenges. Quest groups will return to Camp Luther in the evening to spend time relaxing and hanging out as a community. Campers may still participate in some traditional camp activities, but will spend most of their time embracing new experiences. Attendance is capped at 10 campers per session to create a close-knit community of adventurous Jesus followers!

 Ignite at Keweenaw Base Camp
This is a 5-night program for 9th-12th graders that focuses on intentional, mission-oriented service in the Keweenaw Peninsula of Upper Michigan. If you want to serve the local community, get your hands dirty, and be challenged with what it means to love like Jesus, this is the program for you!

 Venture at Keweenaw Base Camp
This is a 5-night program for 10th-12th graders that is recommended for those who have previously participated in The Edge or similar KBC program. Venture builds on The Edge with an overnight adventure trip and new challenge experiences, all with the same close-knit community feel and incredible staff who are ready to embrace the adventure alongside you. Get ready for more adventure, more challenge, more faith building, and more unforgettable memories!

 We’ve also made some big changes to one of our already popular programs, IMPACT! 
In 2017, IMPACT will still be the outstanding 8-day program it has been in the past, but we are excited to be able to offer it every week of the summer! Campers will continue to develop their leadership, journey on an overnight adventure trip, and serve the community around them. Attendance is capped at 10 campers per session to create an even more close-knit group of lasting friends.

 Looking for service? 
Ignite is totally focused on service and outreach, and IMPACT also has a strong service component!

 Looking for adventure? 
Quest is adventure- focused, and based at Camp Luther. The Edge and Venture are full of adventure, and based out of the KBC. IMPACT has an overnight off-site adventure trip!

 Looking for leadership development? 
IMPACT is focused on intentional leadership development for high school students!

At the end of May, 45 college-aged servants of Christ arrived at Camp Luther for one unforgettable summer. For some, this was their fourth year as part of the Camp Luther Summer Staff, for others this was the first time they had stepped foot on camp soil. Over the next three months they impacted thousands of lives, became a family, and learned what it is to truly rest in the strength of Jesus Christ. Saying "thank you" isn't enough for all they've done, but we're going to try. Thank you for starting fires in the rain. Thank you for living by the motto "the water is always warm." Thank you for comforting homesick campers. Thank you for sacrificing sleep. Thank you for trying new things. Thank you for making each week memorable for campers and families. 10 Signs Summer is Near

Summer is just around the corner, and here are 10 signs to prove it! 1.    The Waterfront is in!  Thank you to the hard working volunteers who helped! Quik, Java,  Skipper,  Snack-Shack, Djembe, and Paul braved the cold and rain, and we are so grateful.  Follow Camp Luther on Instagram 2.     Summer Staff have arrived!  Our Program Coordinators move in today and Counselors and Support Staff join us next Tuesday. Meyer, Surge, and Band-Aid are ready for summer! 3.  The cottages are open! During winter, some of our cottages are closed to save on energy costs. Workbee volunteers in April and May made sure they are open and ready to be lived in! 4.    The fish are biting. Our Men’s Fishing and Golf Retreat was last week, and all who attended had a great time. 5.  Canteen is full of snacks, ice cream, drinks, and new merchandise! 6.    Baby geese have been spotted having lunch at the picnic shelter. 7.    Construction projects are wrapping up. KNOWN our 2015 Theme

K N O W N. He knows me. Our theme comes from John 10:27, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” Like most themes, our theme is one in which we can talk about too much, but never enough. At Camp Luther we often sing the song 'I Just Wanna Be A Sheep'. Like our theme, it can be sung too much, but never enough. As the song goes, “I just wanna be a sheep, ba-ba-ba-ba / I just wanna be a sheep, ba-ba-ba-ba . . .”, but when we sing this do we really mean we want to be a sheep? I don't think so.  Let's be honest, if we were going to choose to be an animal we wouldn't choose a sheep. We'd want to be a lion or an otter or a house cat or a T-Rex, but not a sheep.  Definitely not a sheep. What we are really exclaiming when we sing 'I Just Wanna Be A Sheep' is that we want to follow the One who is our Shepherd, the One who knows us. Meet the 2017 Summer Staff!

This summer, our 45 member Summer Staff joins the legacy of 71 years of Camp Luther summer staffs! These young adults have come to camp to be caring, Christian role models in a number of different capacities. Some are sharing the love of Christ by serving as counselors, others as coordinators for programs such as IMPACT and Junior Counselors. Still others are serving as specialty staff in the maintenance and kitchen departments. Each person, each personality, each skill set has been specifically selected by God himself to be here at Camp Luther this summer, and we couldn’t be more excited! After two weeks of staff training, we can proudly say that we have one of the best trained groups of young adults to serve families, care for children, keep camp safe and maintained, and make sure everyone is fed! A summer may end, but the memories and blessings are ours forever.  Thank you 2014 Summer Staff for touching and shaping lives of campers, adults, families and your fellow staff members with the love of Jesus.   You have endured sunburn, sleepless nights, homesick campers, messy roommates, mental and physical exhaustion, 10 thousand questions, 10 million mosquito bites, and a schedule that only a college student could handle, all for the sake of the Gospel.  Thank you for giving yourself to the Lord's work and sharing your lives with us.  All summer you have shared our theme "Here We Grow".  As our summer comes to a close, you may now realize that it is you in fact that has grown the most.  Thank you for serving Jesus at Camp Luther and KBC.  You are forever family.  - The Year-round Staff "For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my pray
